Welcome to #30mins30days in September! Every day we will suggest an activity which you can do right here in Falkirk to get you active, whether mentally or physically. Please let us know what activities you are trying by joining in the conversation on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #30mins30days. We look forward to seeing which activities prove popular and to see who is trying something new!
This one takes a little bit of planning, and perhaps some equipment! Did you know there’s a buzzing crafting community in Falkirk? We have weekly craft groups in many of our libraries, both during the day and in the evenings. If you enjoy crafting but find it a solitary hobby, join one of our groups (for free!) and meet new people while you create.
It can be intimidating to join a group if you’re feeling lonely or isolated, but our groups are welcoming and friendly. There is no commitment to come every week, they are drop in sessions. Beginners are also welcome at many of the groups and the more experienced group attendees will help out.
There are many different types of social groups available, not just crafting, so check our listings online for more information. Book groups, walking groups, talks at Callendar House, and more.
There are also many resources available for those feeling isolated such as MIND or MoodJuice, and Falkirk Council have a Self Directed Support facility if you perhaps need additional support in accessing things to do during the day.
Our libraries are a wonderful source of information – so pick up the phone or drop them an email/facebook message. As the famous quote goes “Google can bring you back 10,000 answers. A librarian can bring you the right one”!
