Successful End to Big Roman Week

The Big Roman Week festival ended at the weekend with a six mile guided walk from the Falkirk Wheel to the site of Castlecary Roman Fort. The trek was led by archaeologist Geoff Bailey from Falkirk Community Trust.

En route walkers discovered more about the Roman sites at Rough Castle and Seabegs Wood, near Bonnybridge. They also passed through the conservation village of Allandale.

The annual Big Roman Week aims to raise the profile of the Roman Antonine Wall, which runs right through the district. Walks, talks, film shows and family events are organised to help people find out more about local history. Co-ordinators at The Friends of Kinneil charity said the 2015 festival had been a success with good attendances at many activities. They thanked Falkirk Council, the Community Trust, Historic Scotland and other partners for supporting this year's festival.
