Two Falkirk girls are celebrating winning an award at the first ever Scottish Youth Film Festival. Tasha Arnott and Amy McNab, residents of Tremanna Children’s Home, worked with film maker Allan McKeown over a year as part of a Big Lottery Funded Project entitled Arts Champions. They created several pieces of work but their documentary piece on The Panopticon Music Hall in Glasgow triumphed and was awarded first place in the 13-19 years documentary category.
The inaugural Scottish Youth Film Festival (SYFF) took place in Armadale Academy, Armadale, West Lothian on the 20th-22nd November 2015 and was created to celebrate the creativity of Scotland’s young filmmakers, and involved a range of workshops, talks and screenings including zombie make up, animation, acting and filmmaking tryouts.
The Arts Champions Project is a joint venture between Falkirk Community Trust – Arts, Falkirk Council Education and Social Work Services (Children’s Services) and aims to empower young people in the care system through the Arts and Culture. Several of the participants attended and took part in the festival with Tasha and Amy presented with their award on the Sunday evening.
Arts Development Officer (Dance & Drama) Hazel Beattie said “The staff involved are extremely proud of all the participants and thrilled that Tasha and Amy have had all their hard work and talent recognised at such a prestigious event. They worked really hard creating the piece and were involved in the filming, interviewing and editing of the documentary piece that took an amusing and informative look inside the world’s oldest surviving Music Hall. It is an outstanding achievement from two talented young women”.
