On Thursday 17 November 2016, Polmont Sports centre hosted the annual Graeme cluster tennis tournament. 48 pupils took part representing 6 of the local primary schools. The Tennis produced by pupils was of an extremely high standard and great sportsmanship was shown throughout the event.
The overall winners on the day were Victoria Primary. The Victoria Primary pupils produced some great tennis throughout the tournament. Victoria will now go on to represent the Graeme cluster in the Falkirk wide tournament that will take place in June 2017. 2nd place were St Margaret’s Primary and 3rd place were St Andrews Primary.
There were a number of fine individual performances at the event with no fewer than 6 players remaining undefeated. Ross Callaghan (Westquarter PS), Stevie Maxwell (Victoria PS), Jack Mason (St Margaret’s PS), Luke Byron (Victoria PS), Dean Aitken (Laurieston PS), Ross Lang (Whitecross). This is a great achievement and the individuals should be pleased with their performances against tough opposition.
Graeme high school’s Sports Leadership students helped on the day by umpiring matches, time keeping, recording scores and were a big part of the success of the event.
All pupils taking part from all primary schools and the sports leaders from Graeme high were a real credit to the schools. The tournament wouldn’t have been possible without the support from the schools and Jen the Active Schools Coordinator.
