On Thursday 1st December 2016, Polmont Sports centre hosted the annual Braes cluster tennis tournament. 40 pupils took part representing 5 of the local primary schools. The Tennis produced by pupils was of an extremely high standard and great sportsmanship was shown throughout the event.
The overall winners on the day were Wallacestone Primary who narrowly beat Maddiston primary with one of the closest tournaments we have ever had. Both schools had the same number of wins but it was Wallacestone that edged it having had one more draw. Wallacestone will now go on to represent the Braes cluster in the Falkirk wide tournament that will take place in June 2017. 2nd place were Maddiston Primary, 3rd place were Drumbowie Primary, with Avonbridge and California finishing joint 4th.
There were a number of fine individual performances at the event with no fewer than 6 players remaining undefeated. They were; Cameron McDonald (Avonbridge), Coner Robertson (Drumbowie), Mathew Cummings (Maddiston), Callum McGrain, Cameron Orrock and Euan Angus Felton (all Wallacestone). This is a great achievement and the individuals should be pleased with their performances against tough opposition.
Braes high’s Sports Leadership students helped on the day by setting up, umpiring matches, time keeping, recording scores and were a big part of the success of the event.
All pupils taking part from all primary schools and the sports leaders from Braes high were a real credit to the schools. The tournament wouldn’t have been possible without the support from the schools and Johnny Bannerman, Active Schools Coordinator.
