How long have you been a volunteer with Active Schools? 2 Years

How did you get involved with Active Schools?

Through information handed out to the Local Schools about Active Schools seeking volunteers for their various After School Activities.

What do you enjoy most about Volunteering?

Getting the opportunity to coach children the sport that I have a massive passion for and also seeing a few of them attending local rugby clubs to further participate in the sport.

How has being a volunteer with Active Schools benefited you?

It has helped me a lot through creating a bigger network of contacts, getting to meet new people and most importantly giving me more opportunities to enjoy what I love doing most which is coaching rugby.

Describe your most memorable moment from your time as a volunteer with Active Schools?

Receiving a poster from Kinnaird Primary School Primary 7 as a thank you for taking their class for a 5 week period of curricular time rugby.

What would you like to be doing in 5 years time?

Hopefully a full time coach in Rugby or anywhere within the sporting world.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about becoming a volunteer?

Go for it, it is an excellent opportunity for yourself to become a better coach and it can also help you improve on your self-confidence. Volunteering also provides an excellent opportunity for you to gain more qualifications which you can add to your C.V making you more employable when you apply for future jobs.

If you could try one sport that you've never done before what would it be?

Gymnastics, as a test to see how flexible I actually am!

If you were left on a desert island and could take with you a luxury item, a book, and a piece of music. What would they be and why?

  • Luxury Item: My ipad; this is the item I spend a lot of time on during my free time whether I am listening to music or on Social Media etc.

  • A book: None because I don't read!

  • A piece of music: Runrig - Loch Lomond, this is my motivational song and makes me really happy when I hear it and is a very catchy song to sing a long too!
