How long have you been a volunteer with Active Schools? We have been running the Westquarter Cross Country Club for over a year now, however have both run other sports clubs within the school over the past 5-6 years.

How did you get involved with Active Schools? We volunteered to run the Cross Country club during school lunch times.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering? Getting to support children whilst they are taking part in sporting events and feeling proud of their achievements.

How has being a volunteer with Active Schools benefited you? It has helped to build relationships with children in our own class as well as other classes, and through CPD training we have learned new strategies and activities that we can use both in the club and during PE lessons.

Describe your most memorable moment from your time as a volunteer with Active Schools? Taking children to their first running event, the Cross Country League race.

What would you like to be doing in 5 years time? Continue to support the Cross Country team within school, and give children more opportunities to take part in local events.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about becoming a volunteer? It is a great way to build relationships with children and to enhance teaching skills for PE.

If you could try one sport that you've never done before what would it be? Skiing

If you were left on a desert island and could take with you a luxury item, a book, and a piece of music. What would they be and why?

Miss McCabe - A paint set because I enjoy painting in my free time, The Girl with the Dragon tattoo because I enjoy books that involve solving mysteries, and Snow Patrol as I have enjoyed listening to their music for years and been to some of their concerts.

Miss MacLean - I would take a phone so that I could stay in contact with family, Harry Potter as I've always enjoyed the books and music would be anything upbeat.
