On Wed 6 December Bo’ness Recreation centre hosted the Falkirk District schools gymnastics Floor and Vault competition. Entries for this year’s competition saw fifty-five teams and over two hundred gymnasts competing in their respective categories. With the top two schools from each category going forward to represent Falkirk at the finals in Perth.
Gymnasts performed two vault attempts and a floor routine, containing skills of varying difficulty depending on the level they were performing at. In teams of three or four, gymnasts are scored on difficulty and execution with team totals confirming final placing’s. The competition has four levels - primary level 1 & 2 and secondary level 1 & 2, with awards being made to the winning team at each level as well as recognition highest scoring individual. The top three teams are listed below:
Primary level 1
Maddiston Primary PS B won the level one competition, with Kinnaird Primary second and St Bernadettes third, Emi MacDonald from Maddiston was the highest scoring individual.
Primary level 2
Maddiston PS 2A won the level two competition, St Francis C second, and Maddiston PS 2C third. Jack Carter from Maddiston was the highest scoring individual.
Secondary level 1
Braes High school dominated the level one competition, Braes 2 in first with, Braes 1 second and Braes 3 third. Rachel Sneddon from Braes was the top scoring individual.
Secondary level 2
Denny high B won the level two competition with Braes High A second and Falkirk High A in third, Millie Sinclair from Denny high had the best individual score.
Well done to all gymnasts that took part, and thanks to team coaches and teachers many of whom have spent weeks preparing the gymnasts for the competition. The standard was extremely high, with a great atmosphere throughout the day. We wish all the teams going to the finals well.
