My Fitness Blog: How to Recover Your Motivation #9

Since I arrived back from my holiday I had found myself lacking motivation and falling out of love with my fitness routine.  The idea of having to go the gym was daunting, healthy food preparation felt like a chore and I’d lapsed back into a routine of laziness and easy options. To be honest, I could feel it in my body. I was lethargic, sluggish and had little to no energy in comparison to how I felt whilst in the midst of my fitness peak. The hardest part of this stage is looking back at how well I was doing previously and how disappointed I am in myself for falling of the wagon.  My goals seemed a million miles away and in that current position almost impossible.

Hope was not lost! With what little remained of my motivation I decided to look for some extra encouragement and motivation and reached out to a personal trainer. Fitness journeys can be quite a personal concept and I know that previously I had found myself determined to succeed solo and prove I can do it without help from someone else. I’ve come to realise it’s not a sign of weakness to ask for help with fitness, in fact it’s probably the best decision I’ve made.

Working out alone works for some but if you’re like me then having someone to help encourage, motivate and have a laugh with provides an added positive factor in a fitness journey.  I found myself lacking drive occasionally with only my own encouragement to get to the gym, to do that last rep on the weights or run that last kilometre  a little harder.  Having a personal trainer providing positive encouragement and pushing me really inspired me to get to the gym and workout to the best of my abilities.

I’m not suggesting everyone needs a personal trainer, but getting a friend or family member involved can really help. If one of you is lacking motivation the other can encourage and use each other as support mechanisms. At the end of the day, we’re only human and there will be times within our journeys that we will need support.

Falkirk Community Trust staff will be available to provide you with fitness support, guidance and a workout programme if you should so require. If you fall off the fitness journey like I did then don’t give up. Get back on the path and you’ll be surprised by how easy it is to fall back into your workout routine. Remember, it’s all about consistency. I’ve just started with my personal trainer but I’ll keep you updated as I go on.
