Falkirk Library will be hosting an extra special event on Saturday 20th April as part of the world-wide World Book Night. The evening will include two outstanding authors, Denise Mina (Garnethill Trilogy) and Doug Johnstone (Gone Again), as well as an array of books, prizes and plenty of things to do, see and listen to.
World Book Night is about celebrating books and encouraging people to fall in love with reading. Hundreds of volunteers across the UK sign up to be a “World Book Night Giver”, where they have the chance to gift free copies of specially chosen and printed books to their local community. Come along on the 20th and be a part of this very special, worthwhile event.
Denise Mina is best known for the Garnethill trilogy and the Paddy Meehan series, of which Field of Blood was adapted for the BBC, starring David Morrissey and Peter Capaldi. Whether she’s talking about her work on the graphic novel adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, or her crime writing, the former criminology lecturer will be sharp, funny and full of great stories.
Denise will be joined by the ridiculously talented writer, journalist and musician Doug Johnstone. Doug will be promoting new book Gone Again, which has been receiving rave reviews in the national press and across the web and, if we're very lucky, he'll perform a few songs!
Of course no World Book Night celebration would be complete without FREE World Book Night books. You can bag a free copy of titles from the list and, if you’ve registered as a World Book Night giver, you can take part in our big swap! See the list of World Book Night books here: http://www.worldbooknight.org/books/2013
There will be a quiz, where mystery prizes can be won, and The Book Bar, which, as well as serving free refreshments, will host the author signing area and a Waterstones’ stall. You will also have the chance to play around with eReaders and tablets at the eRead stand, showcasing Falkirk Libraries’ range of free magazines and books.
The event starts at 7pm and will run until 9.30pm. The first author will be onstage at 7.20pm, so get there sharp.
Tickets, priced just £5, can purchased from any library, at the Steeple box office or online at Ticketweb: http://bit.ly/10AhmDr
