FTH launches new season

We’ve got a busy summer ahead of us at FTH. But we won’t be jetting off to the Costa Del Somewhere, sipping iced teas in the park, or enjoying the warm summer nights with a BBQ and friends. No, we’re upping tools for a complete refurbishment of our café/bar to bring you a fabulous new area in which to relax pre and post-show with a drink, chat, and friends. And we’d like you all to join us in launching our new café/bar on Saturday 31st August for an Open Doors Family Fun Afternoon!

Come and have a nose around our newly refurbished café/bar, enjoy a drink or snack from our new menu in comfortable surroundings, and relax with music from the excellent local Sing Forth Choir. We’ll also be revealing the winner of our Facebook competition to design and name the FTH Cocktail…will it be “Out Damn Spot” the Bloody Lady Macbeth, or “It’s Behind You” a festive panto-themed tipple. And for the wee ones there’ll be Ba Ba Boom Bakes biscuit decorating…and then eating. Yum! And if that’s not enough, the launch event will be followed by Sing-a-Long-a Joseph (tickets £14/£12), an interactive, dress-up, sing-along film experience for all the family. Wearing your coat of many colours and joining in are strongly encouraged as you’re led through vocal warm ups, groovy moves, and shown how to use your free fun pack along the way by Joseph’s hosts!

We have a packed programme this autumn and if comedy is your thing then we welcome back Scottish favourite Craig Hill with Tartan About! and his usual dose of risqué banter this October (4th). Upcoming Scottish stand-up Daniel Sloss will also be with us continuing our comedy season through November (10th), fresh from his 6th Edinburgh Fringe appearance, and a year packed with touring, television appearances and his debut DVD release: a must see before he becomes massive!

The smash hit Dirty Dusting, starring Chrissie Rock, Leah Bell and Pat Dunn, will be rolling into town on a Henry for two nights of naughty fun (13th/14th October) in this comedy play about a group of OAP cleaners, and unlikely proprietors of ‘Dirty Dusting Telephone Sex – A Chat Line that Really Cleans Up’. Expect a mash up of innuendo meets comfy slippers and plenty of laughs from this excellent ensemble cast.

For kids this season we’re excited to welcome back two FTH favourites: Singing Kettle with Rumble in the Jungle (24th/25th August) and Hairy Maclary & Friends (16th October). Come dressed as your favourite animal and join the new look Kettle line-up, Anya, Kevin, and Gary, on their greatest ever adventure deep into the jungle, packed with musical mayhem and sing-along favourites. Hairy Maclary will be here with more musical mayhem from Donaldson’s Dairy and all his pals: Hercules Morse, as big as a horse; Bottomley Potts, covered in spots; and Schnitzel von Krumm, with the very low tum. Fun for little people that their big people will love too!

We’re also thrilled to have Catherine Wheels join us in November (6th/7th) with their acclaimed show for children and adults, Lifeboat. Based on an astounding true story, Lifeboat has stunned audiences across the globe with its story of survival and enduring friendship about two fifteen year old WWII evacuees who spent nineteen terrifying hours on an upturned lifeboat after the ship taking them to their new life in Canada was torpedoed. Astounding and moving, this play resonates across the generations.

Also returning the autumn is our popular Vintage Fayre (12th October) featuring the best of vintage, kitsch, retro, and old-skool fashions, jewellery, arts, crafts, knick-knacks, hair, beauty and paraphernalia, set to an eclectic 40-90s soundtrack. It will also see the return of the Tea Salon in our new café/bar for that much needed break to refuel with a tea and bun. Continuing the retro vibe, we’ll also be playing host to a screening of The Stone Roses: Made of Stone (20th September), the new documentary charting the much anticipated reunion and rehearsal for their three 2012 homecoming gigs in Manchester’s Heaton Park in front of 220,000 adoring fans. Following this will be a Madchester Club Night from local DJ, Retro Dave, with sounds from The Stone Roses, The Charlatans, The Happy Mondays and many more.

And for those already looking to the end of the year and festive nights out with friends and co-workers we have Parade Du Plaisir (22nd November), a decadent showgirl style burlesque revue hosted by Gypsy Charms and featuring the French Fling Showgirls “Plaisirettes” who have graced the stages of the Moulin Rouge and Las Vegas. Complete your night out by joining us first for a meal and a few drinks followed by the show as part of our meal and show package. Not forgetting the family of course, this year’s panto brought to you by Falkirk Youth Theatre is Jack and the Beanstalk and will be bringing festive fun to FTH from 6th – 14th December. Oh no it won’t…

The full programme is available to view online now or pick up a copy from FTH or the Steeple Box Office, Falkirk.

Tickets for all events can be booked through the Steeple Box Office, Falkirk High Street, (01324) 506850.
