Construction work on the world's largest pair of equine sculptures and one of the UK’s tallest pieces of public art was completed yesterday (Wed 27 November) with a special ‘topping out’ ceremony.
Creating the focal point of our brand new park The Helix, the Kelpies were finally completed with the last bolt being fitted with the help of Scottish Government Transport Minister Keith Brown MSP and artist Andy Scott, who designed the magnificent structures.
Senior representatives from the Helix funding partners, The Big Lottery Fund, Falkirk Council and Scottish Canals joined Councillor Adrian Mahoney to celebrate the event.
The star guests on the day were the Clydesdales Duke and Baron, the inspiration for the sculptures.
