Grangemouth Golf Club was the setting for the RJM Sports Golf Challenge match between Falkirk and Stirling. The event was organised by the Trust's Active Schools team to coincide with the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles this week. Local High School Golf Championships were held earlier this month with 8 players from each area qualifying to represent either Falkirk or Stirling in this challenge match.
The format of the day was foursomes in the morning followed by 8 singles matches in the afternoon. Stirling narrowly won the morning foursomes by a score of 2 ½ pts to 1 ½ pts, setting up a tense afternoon of singles golf. Falkirk got off to an excellent start and won the first 4 singles matches to take the lead, however a strong showing in the next 3 matches from Stirling tied the scores at 5 ½ pts each. This set up a grand stand finish with the last pairing coming down the last hole with Stirling winning by 1 hole, both players played an excellent last hole and halved the final hole, which meant Stirling held on to win the final match and win the Trophy with a score of 6 ½ to 5 ½ .
The Active Schools team would like to thank our sponsor RJM Sports Ltd, who provided the team kit on the day for all players as well as a fantastic trophy and winners prizes.
