Bo’ness Recreation Centre is proud to welcome a very special Christmas tree this festive period. Commissioned by Falkirk Community Trust in 2012 for
Winter Warmth this stunning tree stands at 2 meters high and is made from waste plastic drinks bottles. By award winning ecoartist Sarah Turner, the
bottles were collected from local cafés and households before being sandblasted, hand cut and sculpted into decorative forms. A real Christmas gem!
“Sarah Turner is an eco artist and designer making beautiful lighting and works of art from waste plastic bottles. Coca Cola commissioned her to make the lighting and a massive recycled sculpture for their Hospitality Centre at the London 2012 Olympic games.
Sarah said “ I’m so excited to be involved in this special project . I’m going to be installing the tree for all to see at the opening of the Winter Warmth exhibition on the 17th November .
Turner’s lighting collections have won international design awards and have been exhibited around the world including Milan, Los Angeles, Paris and London.
“All the bottles are collected from cafes and households to be given a new life. The bottles are cleaned and sandblasted to turn the plastic from being transparent to opaque and then with some intricate, highly skilled cutting and sculpting the bottles are completely transformed into stunning high end products. It’s almost impossible to tell what they originated from” explained Sarah.
