The 2015 Hippodrome Festival of Silent Cinema is delighted to announce the first event for its bumper fifth anniversary Festival.
Mind the Gap on Saturday 21st March at 6.15pm will see the platform at the Bo’ness & Kinneil heritage railway turned into a pop-up cinema for one night only. The event will feature a selection of railway-inspired silent films on the big screen with live music, together with one of Scotland’s leading storytellers and Hippodrome Film Explainer Andy Cannon plus a special musical guest providing live accompaniment.
This is the first time that two of the area’s major visitor attractions have collaborated for an event, with the award winning Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway beginning its season earlier than usual so Festival-goers can experience the Railway’s unique passenger service and railway museum.
Cllr Adrian Mahoney, Falkirk Council’s spokesperson for Culture, Leisure and Tourism, said:
“I’m delighted that the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway is supporting the 2015 Hippodrome Festival of Silent Cinema, the organisers’ most ambitious to date. The pop-up film screening at Bo’ness Station is one of the highlights of the forthcoming programme. What’s more, the steam railway and other local attractions will also be running services during the Festival, giving people even more reasons to visit Bo’ness for this must-see event in March.”
Tickets are just £17.00 and £15.00 for concessions and include a hot bowl of ‘Ash Rabbit Stew‘ – a Station Buffet speciality made with Scottish beef, this stew is based on a recipe first cooked in the firebox of a steam engine and was given its name due to the large number of rabbits around the railway where there is very little grass to eat; the train driver thought perhaps they were living on ash! (Vegetarian option available.) Tickets also include tea or coffee and a complimentary nip of whisky courtesy of The Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway Station Buffet. The event is suitable for ages 8+. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.
Tickets will go on sale from 12pm on Friday 19th December at www.hippfest.co.uk or by calling 01324 506850. Capacity is strictly limited and early booking is advised.
