Maddiston Win Falkirk Jump-2-it for Third Time!

Falkirk’s SSF/Rocks Jump2it Finals were won by Maddiston Primary School for an amazing 3rd year in a row!

Playing in front of several thousand British Basketball League fans the Maddiston team defeated Slamannan in the Final by 6 points to nil.

The Final 4 teams in the 21 Falkirk school competition saw Maddiston defeat Comely Park in overtime by 4 baskets to 3 and Slamannan dispose of Beancross. Comely Park took third place in the 3rd/4th play-off with Beancross.

Maddiston’s record in the competition which is now in its 4th year is pretty special. With St. Margaret’s taking year 1’s competition, Maddiston have now won 3 in a row and each year have faced an increasing number of teams taking part.

Maddiston play in the Falkirk Primary School League and great credit goes to Kirsty Muir who has helped coach and develop the program at the school.

When Falkirk held its first Jump2it competition 8 teams took part, year 2 saw 10 schools with 16 in year 3. This latest competition has involved 21 primary schools take part in the program that is backed by Cashback in the Communities and has partners from Active Schools Falkirk, Fury Basketball Club to Scottish Sports Futures and the pro Glasgow Rocks basketball team. The Finals were played at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow during the rocks BBL game v Manchester Giants where the teams saw Falkirk’s Jonny Bunyan hit 11 points and a game winning 3 for the Rocks.

Over 400 boys and girls competed in the programme and were coached over the past 3 months with over 2000 taking part in the Rocks Roadshows!

Fury Head Coach John Bunyan praised all partners and highlighted how the standard of basketball at primary school level just keeps getting higher and with 16 schools now in Falkirk’s Primary School League, competition for places in Fury’s Development squads is very tough indeed – however with pathway places at Falkirk Sports Development classes and Fury’s - Tryst Hub sessions there is a place for all to play!

A record breaking crowd of 350 saw FURY MENS BBL match v the pro Glasgow Rocks a few weeks ago and every day sees parents looking for their sons/daughters to join Fury’s basketball program – email – if you have an interest in playing basketball with one of the top clubs in the country!
