Winter Warmth 2012

Sarah Turner is an eco artist and designer making beautiful lighting and works of art from waste plastic bottles. Coca Cola commissioned her to make the lighting and a massive recycled sculpture for their Hospitality Centre at the London 2012 Olympic games. This winter she has been commissioned by The Park Gallery, Falkirk Community Trust to create a special Christmas tree to launch  the Winter Warmth exhibition at The Park Gallery, Callendar House, Falkirk.

Sarah said “ I’m so excited to be involved in this special project . I’m going to be installing the tree for all to see at the opening of the Winter Warmth exhibition on the 17th November. I’ll also be giving a talk and working with representatives from local Eco schools and secondary pupils to show them how to make art from recycled materials”

Turner’s lighting collections have won international design awards and have been exhibited around the world including Milan, Los Angeles, Paris and London.

Bottles

“All the bottles are collected from cafes and households to be given a new life. The bottles are cleaned and sandblasted to turn the plastic from being transparent to opaque and then with some intricate, highly skilled cutting and sculpting the bottles are completely transformed into stunning high end products. It’s almost impossible to tell what they originated from” explained Sarah.

Gillian Smith, ADO Community Engagement, Falkirk Community Trust said “Sarah’s designs prove that just because a product is made from rubbish it doesn’t mean it needs to look like it does! I’m delighted that this unique tree will launch the Winter Warmth exhibition at the Park Gallery. This year’s exhibition theme is Illuminate. We intend to celebrate the originality and talent of designer/makers who are using light to bring their craft to life and also artists from other disciplines whose work aims to illuminate our lives. It will be a great opportunity to see innovative artwork of the highest standard, and will provide an irresistible choice if you’re looking for unique ideas for your Christmas shopping as all work is for sale and available to take away”

Sarah thrives on the challenge of creating a beautiful product from waste materials. She analyses the natural properties and features of the waste material.

"the tree will stand 2 metres high and the top will feature a spectacular star!  Make sure you pop by and take a look!” Sarah Turner

Workshop: Saturday 17th November | 3pm - 4pm | Age 10 plus
