FYT: Falkirk Youth Theatre
Being a Member
To be a member of FYT you must be between 7-18 years of age and commit to attending
three terms of activity per year; January – March, April – June and August – December
(see below for further information).
Summer School 2014
This is not a fairytale. This is about real witches. Grandmamma loves to tell about witches. Real witches are the most dangerous of all living creatures on Earth. There's nothing they hate so much as children, and they work all kinds of terrifying spells to get rid of them. Her grandson listens closely to Grandmamma's stories - but nothing can prepare him for the day he comes face-to-face with The Grand High Witch herself!
Working with text, music, movement and puppets, you will work over the week creating a performance of this fabulous tale to be performed on the Friday evening.
This summer school runs daily from 10.00am - 4.00pm.
What happens at FYT?
At FYT we work towards providing a broad range of learning opportunities in contemporary
theatre practice and musical theatre. Members will develop acting and performance
skills in a safe and supportive environment led by professionally trained practitioners.
The young people involved will be challenged to explore their capabilities and use
their creativity to its full potential. We always employ skilled and experienced
theatre professionals to run our workshops, classes and productions.
The first two terms will look at contemporary theatre practice and the last one
will be a performance term. The contemporary theatre practice terms will include
a range of drama skills activity eg new writing, devising, character work, Shakespeare,
physical theatre and voice work. The performance term will consist of rehearsals
towards a main stage performance at FTH in December.
How will you meet my interests?
We recognise that you all have your own particular interests in theatre and that
for some of you, these might not always be about performing. Where possible, we
will try to offer opportunities for our youth theatre members beyond just performance.
There are lots of ways of being involved in the youth theatre, perhaps assisting
in aspects of direction, set, marketing or stage management.
How can I have a say?
We will be inviting all members to a forum (one per term), where you can air your
views and help us plan forthcoming youth theatre activity.
How will the classes be organised?
We will be running classes for specific age groups, so that activity can be tailored
to the appropriate level. The membership will be split into the following groupings,
with a maximum of 25 in each class:
- 7-10 years
- 11-13 years
- 14-18 years
Progression between classes will be on a strict age basis and you will only move
up into the next group when there is a place for you.
How will I know how well I’m doing?
FYT welcomes members with all abilities and any level of experience. We view everyone
as an individual with their own unique set of skills to offer. We think it’s a good
idea to give you updates on your progress, so you will receive regular feedback
letting you know which areas you are excelling in, as well as some aspects you may
need to develop.
How much will it cost?
Payment will be split across three terms as follows:
- Term 1: £50 (£35 concessions)
- Term 2: £50 (£35 concessions)
- Term 3: £70 (£50 concessions)
Other optional activity, such as theatre trips and holiday activity is not included
in these sums. If you feel you may have difficulty in making payments, please contact
us in the strictest confidence, as we are keen to ensure that finance is not a barrier
