Falkirk & District Walking Forum

What is the Falkirk & District Walking Forum?

The Falkirk & District Walking Forum (formerly the Falkirk Health Walking Forum) was developed as a way to increase partnership working across the Falkirk area for all groups with an interest in walking; whether you are interested in natural heritage, health walks or active travel.

The Forum acts as a place where organisations can network and share good practice. Projects that arise from discussion within the group are taken on by a sub-group of interested parties who can feed back their progress at future meetings.

The Forum is also designed so that groups can dip in and out of meetings as required, for instance getting involved if they have a relevant up-coming project, or are looking for groups to work in partnership on an initiative.

History

The Forum was set up in response to an objective within the Joint Health Improvement Plan 2008-10, to develop a Falkirk Health Walking strategy and co-ordinate existing activity. The first meeting was held in February 2009, and the group has met on a bi-monthly basis since.

The Forum has had input into a number of local projects, from Paths Development Groups for the Helix Trust, local partnership leaflet development with Step Forth and Braveheart walking groups, to the consultation and future development of 30 minute walks in the Braes area.

The name changed in 2011 to incorporate all the groups with a walking agenda, such as active travel groups, or walks of a historical or natural focus.

Information

The group meets every two months and is chaired by Lee Kelso, the Let’s Make Falkirk More Active Officer for Falkirk Community Trust. Current membership includes representatives from Step Forth, Braveheart, The Helix Trust, Forestry Commission, Falkirk Community Trust, Falkirk Council, NHS Forth Valley and Paths for All.
