Photographs in Falkirk Archives

Falkirk Archives has an extensive collection of photographs and postcards relating to the local area, from the 1840s to the present day. Digital copies of about 5000 photographs can be seen in our Collections Browser.

  • Everywhere in the Falkirk area – over 39,000 local images
  • Throughout Scotland – about 4,000 images taken by local photographers including
  • West Lothian – mainly Linlithgow, Broxburn and other towns,
  • Clackmannanshire – Alloa, Dollar and other towns
  • Stirling
  • Perth & Kinross
  • Fife
  • Aberdeenshire
  • Argyll & Bute
  • Scottish Borders
  • Lanarkshire
  • Highland and Moray

You can see the original photographs in the collection, free of charge, by visiting the Archives. Please contact us in advance to plan your visit.

Have a look at the highlights section to see small collections of the digitised images or use the search tools to find out what other photographs we hold. For copyright and resource reasons we cannot digitise all the photographs in the collections.

You can purchase copies of most of the photographs (subject to copyright restrictions). If you are publishing a book or making a film or video or television broadcast or using photographs in a talk, we may have the photographs you need. We reserve the right to charge reproduction fees for any public use of the collections in addition to the cost of the images.
