Archives

Falkirk Archives exists to select, preserve and make accessible the archival heritage of the local community. Preservation is a core function of Falkirk Archives.

We will:

  • store records in appropriate enclosures which meet professionally approved standards
  • monitor environmental conditions in storage areas and strive for appropriate environmental conditions
  • work towards achieving the optimum conditions for archival accommodation, within the constraints of the available buildings
  • establish and regularly review criteria for identifying and prioritising items requiring active conservation work, and commission conservation work in accordance with the results of using these criteria, as resources permit
  • do everything possible to minimise damage to the records from use and handling, by promoting good practice and providing suitable supports and equipment to protect the archives while in use.
