Information from relatives
The first thing to do is to gather together as much information as you can eg talk
to relatives about your family, what they did, where they came from etc., collect
family documents eg certificates, photographs, letters, family bibles etc.
These can contain vital information when tracing your ancestors.
Starting with the most recent births, deaths and marriages you should work backwards
from these. Don't worry if you have limited information on your family, you can
start searching from just your own name and date of birth.
