The Falkirk Herald 1914-1918

May 1915

In May 1915, Britain's worst ever rail disaster occurred at Quintinshill, near Gretna Green in Dumfriesshire. The Falkirk Herald provided extensive coverage of the crash and its aftermath, due to the fact that the train involved had left Larbert station bound for Liverpool (and onwards to Gallipoli).

For many of the victims, most of whom were soldiers of the Leith-based 7th Battalion Royal Scots Territorial Force, Larbert was the last place they set foot on solid ground.
