The Minecraft Project was funded by the Public Library Quality Improvement Fund (PLIF)
and is run in partnership with Bounce Higher – The Children and Family Work Programme
at St. Andrew's Church, Bo’ness. They work with and support children, young people
and families in Bo’ness.
The project aims to change the perceptions of the children involved in regards to
libraries and convert them into customers. The project gathered together a group
of children aged between 7 and 12. The children work together using the game Minecraft
on PS4s to create digital representations of Bo’ness landmarks. The buildings selected
by the children were Bo’ness Library, Kinneil House and St Andrew’s Church.
The digital representations encompass the interior and exterior of the buildings
as interpreted by the children. They can be navigated using the Minecraft avatar
'Steve’. The children have also become ‘YouTubers’ by creating videos of their creations
and sharing them on YouTube.
