Mini-tennis coaching classes cater for 5 - 10 years, progressing by age through
a 'traffic light system', starting with red, progressing through orange and finally
reaching green standard. Adapted balls, smaller courts and rackets allow younger
players to improve coordination and skills important to the game whilst having fun
and keeping fit!
Mini-tennis Red (aged 5 - 7): the perfect fun introduction to tennis and an ideal
starter game. Players play on badminton size courts and work on coordination and
movement skills, rallying, serving, court work, score keeping and basic tennis rules.
Mini-tennis Orange (aged 8 - 9): a great way for players to continue their progress
from Mini Tennis Red. The game is played with shorter rackets, specialised hybrid
balls and bigger and wider courts than "red". Players work on match-play skills
and develop a rounded game whilst learning a range of techniques and tactics.
Mini-tennis Green (aged 9 – 10): the final stage of Mini-tennis. It is played on
a full size tennis court, with bigger rackets and balls which are 25% softer than
adult yellow balls. This stage helps players develop and improve all aspects of
their game, and prepares players to move onto junior level, either at club level
or continued through sports development.
