What is it?
The Run, Jump & Throw Club (RJT) is a programme designed to give children an
opportunity to discover and participate in Athletics activities all year round.
The RJT is tailored to suit children of all skill levels from beginners and less
experienced youngsters up to those who have already taken part in introductory athletics
programmes, holiday courses or local junior competitions.
The RJT programme offers children a wide variety of Athletics events and techniques,
and focuses on the FUNdamental movement skills, important in every child's development.
Events covered include:
- Sprints
- Hurdles
- Shot putt
- Javelin
- Discus
- Pole Vault
- Long jump
- High jump
- Relay Races
- Hammer
- Endurance
Who is it for?
Children aged from 4 to 14 years who want to have fun, participate, make friends,
and learn new and exciting skills.
What do I need to get started?
Just a pair of trainers, a bottle of water and clothing suitable for exercise.
How do I develop?
Our qualified coaches will ensure that each child has fun, whilst learning and acquiring
correct skills and techniques. Run, Jump and Throw is designed to ensure that all
children have the fundamental skills which will enhance their development for them
to progress into the next age group and finally an affiliated Athletics club. We
use the British Athletics ladder system to test the children in the disciplines
appropriate to their age groups. A copy of the ladder scoring system is located
in the warm up area of the Indoor Centre. Each child is tested in their disciplines
and presented with a certificate showing their results at the end of each block.
Where next?
Children in the age 4-6 years group will have the opportunity
to practice and become familiar with the basic techniques involved in running, jumping
and throwing events. Enjoyment is a key factor in this age-group programme.
The age 7-8 years group introduces additional events and technical
aspects to the Athletics activities and continues to build on the foundations of
good technique, enjoyment and healthy lifestyle.
The age 9+ years group offers the opportunity to enhance
these acquired skills and techniques across a wide range of Athletics events, introducing
some competitive elements, while maintaining the emphasis of fun and enjoyment
in positive, healthy activities.
From this stage, children who have acquired the skills with a positive attitude
and enthusiasm will be invited to join our own competition group – Grangemouth Development
Squad and finally onto our partner club Falkirk Victoria Harriers where they will
continue all round development before focusing more specifically on a chosen discipline.
If you are interested in joining and would like more information on Run, Jump and
Throw or Grangemouth Development Squad please contact the Stadium on 01324 504590
