The Ambassadors present MONSTER DAY

A day of classic, cult and new films with added grrr and arrgh!

Well, the Ambassadors did us proud with a fantastically monster-ous day on Saturday 17 November. The mighty King Kong was in attendance in the Reel Saturday slot and you can see some of our brave audience members meeting him on our facebook page.

Our special guest was Kevin Lehane, the screenwriter of Grabbers. Travelling to us from London via Cork, Kevin was in conversation with journalist Jonathan Melville  and we were treated to a fascinating insight into Kevin’s career and the journey of a feature film script to screen.

Accompanied by the glamorous red carpet and specially commissioned cocktails, Kevin’s film Grabbers then hit the Hippodrome screen for its preview screening. Giant, blood-sucking, tentacle-covered monsters didn’t fail to horrify in this brilliant Irish horror comedy that has already proved a hit at Edinburgh International Film Festival, Sundance and FrightFest. Laughs and shrieks ensued…

And the day was rounded off with a late-night screening of The Wicker Man when Lord Summerisle and Sergeant Howie showed up to keep order. The pagan animal masks were out in competition for the limited edition coffin-shaped blu-ray "Essential Collection of Classic Monster Movies" that Universal Pictures had generously donated.

The Hippodrome 100 Ambassador Scheme has been a chance for 18-30 year olds based in the Falkirk Council area to programme and promote Monster Day as part of the centenary celebrations. The group of five enthusiastic ambassadors worked hard over the Summer in mentored sessions and industry expert workshops to produce an excellent day that has garnered praise from audiences and film industry specialists alike:

“Scream-tastic, well done!”
“This sounds awesome!”
“Monstrous fun!!!”
“Great ideas and great fun!”
“Loved it. Great choice of films.”
