Mariner Centre building improvements update 10/04/2018
As you are no doubt aware, construction work is well underway to develop enhanced facilities in the centre as well as a brand new soft play area called
The Great Mariner Reef.
Visitors can expect a large, state of the art soft play area suitable for children up to 12 years within the Great Mariner Reef with impressive views through to the swimming pool. Other planned improvements to the building include a brand new reception area, café, seating area and
Changing Places - which is a fully accessible changing area with hoist and changing bench.
The project is creating multiple new jobs within the centre and also aims to attract more visitors to the local area.
In order for the new centre to be available for visitors as soon as possible, there will be a 6 week temporary closure of The Mariner Centre to allow on-going construction work, commencing Monday 23rd April. The centre will re-open as normal on Monday 4th June. Falkirk Community Trust health & fitness and leisure customers are encouraged to take advantage of their other centres and swimming pools in the local area during this disruption, details of which can be found under the venues section of the website.
Swimming lessons during this period will be relocated and customers will be contacted by a staff member soon to arrange this.
Neil Brown, General Manager at Falkirk Community Trust said: "We are developing some really fantastic changes at The Mariner Centre to increase footfall and deliver an enhanced experience for our visitors. Current on-going plans for The Great Mariner Reef are really exciting and we look forward to unveiling them to the public soon.
“We are also very proud, alongside the Adult Social Care Services team at Falkirk Council, to be able to offer a new changing places facility. With thousands of people with profound disabilities unable to use standard accessible toilets, our new fully accessible toilets will mean everyone can enjoy The Mariner Centre.
We hope visitors will understand that the temporary closure is a necessary and small disruption in order to be able to offer these fantastic facilities later this year."
Councillor Cecil Meiklejohn, Leader of Falkirk Council said: “The new facilities will really benefit The Mariner Centre and will encourage many new users to enjoy both the new soft play and offer much improved changing areas to those with disabilities.
“We know that there will be some disruption while these improvements are carried out but we are sure visitors will appreciate the longer term benefits for everyone.”
