To mark the 100th anniversary of the publication of the film’s source novel the Hippodrome is delighted to present a special screening of this atmpospheric WW1 spy story, the first collaboration of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, partly shot on location in Orkney. Whilst on a spying mission to the North of Scotland, a German spy finds more than he bargained for when he falls for the local schoolteacher. Conrad Veidt (‘Casablanca’) is brilliant as the sinister but sympathetic German captain and, Valerie Hobson (‘Great Expectations’) is delightful as the resourceful double-agent school teacher.
Introduced by Moya Macdonald of ‘Another Orkney Production’.
