FITNESS ACTIVITY GUIDELINES
• All gym and fitness class sessions are bookable from Tuesday 8th of September, either online or by phone. Please be aware you must pre-book a gym session. You are no longer able to just turn up and walk in. This is in order that we can control the amount of people in the buildings at any one time.
• Class and gym capacity have been reduced by 50%-60% across all venues. The fitness studio floor will be clearly marked for customers. This will enable 2 metre social distancing to be effectively implemented. We have created handover time in between each class, to enable room ventilation and cleaning of all equipment thoroughly before and after each class.
• Class adaptions have been implemented to remove the need for movement around the room, for example, Bodyattack and Bodycombat.
• Our gyms will be closed twice per day for deep cleaning and full sanitisation at 11.30 and 16.30.
• All customers will be required to wear face masks in public areas i.e. upon entering the building and while travelling in corridors and toilets. You will be able to remove your mask when you commence exercising.
CLEANING AND SAFETY
• Hand sanitiser stations are available upon entering and will be located throughout all key areas in our venues.
• Users must clean down equipment before and after use in the gym and studios
• Air circulation systems have been adjusted to reduce transmission risks
• The team have been extensively trained on new operating systems, Covid-19 risks, and management.
We have implemented a range of measures to help keep customers and staff safe. These include a new one-way system around parts of the buildings and new exit routes. This enables us to control the flow of people and to minimise the gathering of customers.
Social distancing will be adhered to in all areas including the reception, gym areas and group exercise classes. Enhanced deep cleaning schedules have been established, including all gym equipment. Hand sanitiser will be available for customers and staff. DOORS WILL ONLY OPEN 5 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACTIVITY. To ensure we control the numbers of customers in the centre at any one-time customers will not be permitted access to the venue before their booked activity. Customers must leave the centre immediately after the activity has finished.
All activities must be pre booked online or by calling the relevant venue.
You should arrive wearing gym kit at the start time of your booked gym session, as our changing rooms and lockers will not be available. However, toilets will be available in our venues.

If you have a concern during your visit, please alert a facility team member of staff but please keep at least 2m away from our team members while speaking to them.
We are following the Scottish Government advice on the wearing of masks for both our team and customers. Our team will be wearing facemasks. Customers will be asked to wear face coverings in all indoor public venues. Health and fitness customers will be permitted to remove their mask while exercising, as social distancing measures will be in place. However, customers should wear a face covering when moving to/from the gym or studio to exercise, and in the public areas, for example, the corridors and toilets.
Contact tracing is a process for identifying people at risk of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection because they have been physically close to a person who has tested positive. FCT supports the Scottish Government’s Test & Protect Strategy and follows its guidance on the collection of customer and visitor contact details.
All visitors attending formalised activities must book online or call and book in advance. Upon arrival their attendance shall be recorded. The following details will be collected:
• The name of each customer or visitor, or when attending as a small household group, the contact details for one member of that group - a 'lead member', noting the size of the group
• A contact phone number for each individual, or for the 'lead member' of a small household group
• Date of visit and arrival and, where possible, departure time
Before returning to the facility, customers will be required to commit to enhanced hygiene measures and our new ways of working. Our team will have received training and guidance and will be on hand to support the enforcement and practice of our safety measures.
Yes, it is within our guidance that all staff will wear masks where possible. If the wearing of a mask is unsuitable for an individual for health reasons or specific job roles subject to risk assessment, we will require them to wear a face shield. Staff that cannot wear a face covering for medical reasons will wear lanyards displaying their NHS medical exemption cards.
Yes, we will be putting a limit on the number of customers in our venues at any one time. Our area capacities have been reduced by 50%-60%, this will vary for each venue and each class specifically; details will be online, or you can call your chosen venue for more information.
Yes – social distancing must be observed at all times within our venues in line with the latest
guidance. We have set up the following social distancing measures across our venues:
• Minimum 2m distancing between people in all areas
• 2m distancing between people in fitness classes
• The floor will be clearly marked in studios for fitness classes to follow physical distancing
• Accessible gym equipment will be either 2 metres apart or facing in different directions
Customer health and safety is of utmost importance to us. In the interests of customer safety, changing areas will not be open for Health and Fitness customers. You should arrive in your gym kit.
Lockers and showers will not be available.
We have reduced the number of toilets available and will be limiting the numbers inside at any one time to ensure the safety of our customers. Enhanced cleaning and hygiene measures will be in place.
No. We are keeping these the same as we believe we already offer good value for money. We are reopening with a very similar fitness programme and offering.
Monthly memberships were automatically frozen when we stopped all programmes and activities on 18 March 2020. Members have the option to either restart their membership or keep their membership frozen. For those members who choose to restart their membership, this will begin on 14 September. In view of when we closed, the direct debit will not recommence until 1 November. Until this point, members will receive complimentary use of the leisure facilities. If you do not yet wish to start using the leisure facilities please email firstname.lastname@example.org to keep your membership frozen by 10 October.
All memberships. However, please bear in mind that with the phased reopening, our Active Forth team will not return to work immediately.
Annual memberships will have the number of days we have been closed added onto their existing expiry date.
New memberships will be available for customers who have not accessed our facilities before.
If you need to self-isolate after your membership has restarted please email email@example.com as soon as possible.
We encourage you not to attend our clubs if you feel unwell and cancel your booked activity.
Requests to restart /freeze memberships must come from the direct debit holder. However, there are options to temporarily change your membership to another package such as an ALL IN Single membership. Your membership would be set to a single membership until your partner/friend wishes to restart. If you don’t require any support from the Active Forth team specifically, in terms of physical or programming support then you can return to our clubs. Our Active Forth team are part of our phase 2 reopening plans and will return shortly after 14 September.
Yes, a limited number of toilets will be open at each site and subject to an enhanced cleaning schedule. Please follow the signage and wash hands after your visit.
The sauna and steam room will remain closed for the moment.
As lockdown begins to ease across Scotland, the Trust is preparing plans for a phased reopening of venues, in line with the Scottish Government’s ‘Routemap’. Our plan to reopen takes into account the needs of our community along with restrictions on the number of customers and staff we can accommodate safely.
With this in mind, although we have provisionally set dates for reopening of some of our sites, these dates are all subject to Scottish Government guidance, the R number value and further safety and hygiene tests carried out locally.
As Bo’ness Recreation Centre is a large and complex building, in addition to COVID-19 guidance, we must also follow several technical processes to make the building safe for public and staff use. We are taking a careful, measured, phased approach to reopening and at this time we are unable to identify potential opening dates for Bo’ness Recreation Centre. As soon as we are in a position to announce a date to reopen we will do this via our social media channels and website, so would urge you to keep up to date this way.
No, the Step Forth Walks have been cancelled until further notice, but you can still enjoy a walk in The Helix, Callendar Park and Muiravonside Country Park. Please note that the toilets at these sites will be closed.
