Archives Aide

What is an Archives Aide?

The Falkirk Community Trust archive is based within Callendar House, a World Heritage Site, in Falkirk. The archive welcomes over 700 enquiries and over 450 visits annually, including visitors from around the world. Archives Aides assist the Archivist and Archivist Assistants to manage the collections onsite and enhance service provision to the wider public. Volunteers help to provide much needed support for archives by assisting with the day-to-day running of the archive, as well as assisting with more specific projects. This role would be ideal for a part-time worker or retired person looking for a different type of volunteering role, or a student interested in either gaining insight into the daily operations of archives or acquiring experience of archive work. Work will take place with collections held in the onsite and off-site stores.

  • Retrieving documents and other items from the archives
  • Handling material and demonstrate archives practices to customers
  • Assisting with the management of the research library
  • The Archive can have projects such as the backlog of collections catalogues and uploaded so the public can view and use the collections.
