Overview

The Great Place project, managed by Falkirk Community Trust (FCT) seeks a freelance Marketing and PR professional to assist with the promotion of our spring and summer activities and events, interpreting and celebrating a variety of aspects of our local heritage with Falkirk communities and beyond.

The contractor will report to the Project Coordinator. The schedule for the role is flexible, but hours should be distributed evenly throughout the contract period, and the work can be completed remotely.

1. Context

The Falkirk area Great Place scheme, Landscape, industry, and work, focuses on connections: raising awareness of our rich heritage from physical assets to community knowledge and understanding the value of this in shaping our area’s future. Established and new networks – physical, social, and digital are key to the project.  Recording, interpreting and celebrating Falkirk’s heritage through its routes, places and landmarks is complemented by investment in social and digital platforms widening the reach of the project and encouraging more people to get involved in the area’s heritage. The Falkirk Great Place Scheme partnership consists of Falkirk Community Trust, Falkirk Council, Scottish Canals, and Green Action Trust.

The project is supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Great Place Scheme is a pilot programme, investing in 9 places around Scotland with the goal of enabling heritage organisations to make a step-change in how they work together, and with other organisations in other sectors, in order that heritage contribute more to meeting local social, environmental and economic objectives. By strengthening the networks between heritage, civic and community organisations, and by involving citizens and local businesses, projects will enhance the role that heritage plays in the future of each place.

Marketing and PR for the project is usually completed in-house, however current restrictions have necessitated significant changes to our programme, and reduced our opportunities for contact with local communities. We are looking to increase our capacity in digital marketing and PR to increase our visibility and participation numbers in our revised spring and summer activities.

2. Structure

The Marketing & PR Contractor will be based within FCT Great Place project, reporting directly to the Project Coordinator and working closely with the Activity Lead Officer for Tourism, Leisure, and Events. The contractor will also work with student placements involved in doing research and planning with the project team. The work can be completed remotely. Priorities will be mutually determined on a monthly basis, focussing on specific events and objectives (for example, increasing downloads of our Falkirk Explored App, or sign-ups to attend an online storytelling evening).

3. Role and Objectives

Working with the Great Place team, the Marketing Contractor will focus on increasing awareness of the Great Place project and participation in online and in person events and activities.

Marketing Contractor Responsibilities

 

·         Digital marketing campaign to increase use of the ourstoriesfalkirk.com website

o   Work with GP team to determine objectives

o   Run 2 month-long promotional campaign

o   Create a written report evaluating campaign

·         Content development for Facebook, twitter and Instagram, focussing on participation in activities and events

·         Oversee, plan and deliver content across different platforms using the scheduling programme Hootsuite

·         Ensure all content on the website is accessible, linked to other relevant sites and search engine optimised and follows any legal or industry guidelines where applicable

·         Ensure all social media activity is linked to the website activity and vice versa

·         Run paid social campaigns, focussing on participation in activities and events

·         Edit and write copy for press releases, follow up with targeted media outlets (primary distribution of releases will go through the Falkirk Community Trust marketing & PR team)

·         Liaise with GP team to ensure email campaigns, any physical marketing activities and community outreach links/ aligns with our other digital strategies.

·         Ongoing monitoring, evaluation and regular reporting of all campaign activity

·         Enhance the Great Place project’s online presence and brand identity

·         Other duties, within reason, as required.

 

 

4. Timescale

This is a self-employed contract comprising 24 days of work beginning 05th April, 2021 ending 27th August, 2021.  An appropriate schedule would be worked out with the Project Coordinator at the start of the contract.

This contract is offered on a self-employed basis and the contractor should take full responsibility for any tax and national insurance contributions relating to the fee.

5. Budget

The contract is offered with a fixed fee of £3,500 including expenses, which will be paid by agreed instalments over the course of the contract (subject to receipt of invoices).

6. Person Specification

For successful delivery, this contract will require:

Essential

  • At least 2-3 years professional experience in social media, including paid campaigns
  • Experience in ecommerce, SEO, PPC, Email marketing, and social media
  • Proven track record working with online advertising tools
  • Data driven approach to content and digital marketing
  • Highly organised with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent writing skills and a creative problem-solving approach
  • Ability to work well from home
  • Skilled at working across multiple platforms
  • Skilled at launching and managing online competitions and campaigns that promote the organisation and brand
  • Very strong communication skills
  • Collaborative and personable with good team-working skills
  • Experience in interpreting and analysing data and performance using Google Analytics and other data sources (e.g. Facebook’s Audience Insights)

Desirable

  • Experience of working in heritage, culture and/or community outreach
  • A high degree of organisation, flexibility and professionalism
  • Experience creating engaging graphics for online use
