Hidden Heritage Volunteer – Kinneil Estate

Hidden Heritage Volunteer – Kinneil Estate

What is a Hidden Heritage Volunteer?

Volunteers will investigate and uncover the rich history of the estate, often missed by visitors, and turn those stories into interpretation that everyone can enjoy. The Hidden Heritage project is run by the Friends of Kinneil and Falkirk Community Trust, and will also contribute to the celebration of the area through the Great Place scheme.

What’s in it for you?

  • A great opportunity to work with professional Archivists, Graphic Artists and Play Designers to learn skills and techniques relating to historic research, interpretation and trail design.
  • Work in a team with other members of the community and contribute to a project which will benefit Bo’ness.
  • Reasonable travel expenses paid.

What’s involved?

  • The first stage of the project involves working with the Archivist to learn skills and techniques for uncovering hidden heritage. After the research phase there will be the opportunity to take part in creative interpretation and design workshops as well.
  • Volunteers will explore how to use document archives, oral history, how to select and tell the local stories and use visuals such as photography and 3D scans to bring history to life.
  • You will have the opportunity to take part in further work in July and August to develop the project with interpretation consultants and graphic designers.

Skills, Attitude, and Experience Required

  • No previous experience is required; the project lets you work with professionals to pick up skills and gain knowledge.
  • You must be reasonably available in May, June and July 2019 and have an interest in the project.
