Libraries Helper

What is a Libraries Helper?

Volunteers will gain new skills and experience of working with the public in a library setting and will get a chance to try out many of the jobs that keep our libraries running smoothly, with training and support provided by our friendly staff.  This opportunity will suit someone who is interested in libraries, books and reading and who enjoys meeting and helping people.

What's involved?

After training, some or all of the following:

  • Help Library Assistants to issue, renew, and discharge books
  • Assist members of the public to find stock
  • Shelve books and other items
  • Help at children's events, such as Bookbug and Storytime
  • Help create displays to promote events

Skills, attitude, and experience required

  • This opportunity would be great for someone who is friendly, enthusiastic about books and libraries, reliable, and with a good level of education and literacy
  • Must be able to follow instruction and adhere to agreed Health and Safety, child protection, data protection, and confidentiality standards
  • No previous experience necessary

Other Important Information:

Location: One of the Trust's libraries: Falkirk, Grangemouth, Larbert, Meadowbank, Denny, Bo'ness, or Bonnybridge (Slammanan is unable to provide this opportunity) SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY

Time Commitment: Flexible; volunteers must commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week for a maximum of 3 months. The day of volunteering can be agreed.
