Youth Library Helper

What is a Youth Libraries Helper?

Youth Libraries Helpers develop experience volunteering in a public library so they can gain skills and knowledge to improve their overall employability. They will get a chance to assist the Library staff with many of the tasks associated with working in a library.

What's involved?

After training, some or all of the following:

  • Help Library Assistants to issues, renew, and discharge books
  • Shelve books and other items and assist members of the public to find stock
  • Help at children's events , such as Bookbug and Storytime, and create displays to promote events
  • Promote reader development activities, for example, as a Reading Champion for our youth summer reading scheme, or help out with summer craft and other activities

Skills, attitude, and experience required

  • This opportunity would be great for someone who is friendly, enthusiastic about books and libraries, reliable, and who would like to gain new skills
  • Must be able to follow instruction
  • Applicants under 16 years of age must have a signed parent/guardian consent form
  • No previous experience necessary

Location: One of the Trust's libaries: Falkirk, Grangemouth, Larbert, Meadowbank, Denny, Bo'ness, or Bonnybridge (Slammanan is unable to provide this opportunity) SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY

Time Commitment: This is flexible depending on the individual's requirements.
