Schools are welcome to choose from the following options:
March on the Antonine Wall with your own cohort
Come along to the site of the Antonine Wall for an outside mini-walking tour. Falkirk Archaeologist Geoff Bailey will tell children (on the actual site of the wall) how the wall was built and how troops marched in formation. This session will last just under an hour.
This workshop will only go ahead in good weather; and will be replaced by either Option B or Option C in bad weather.
Potty with Pottery
Join us at Callendar House to learn more about Roman pottery that has been found in the Falkirk area over the years. Archaeologist Geoff Bailey will talk children through a handling session of different pots, their materials, how they were made and what kind of things they were used for.
FCT library staff will give children the opportunity to make their own replica pots with clay using the same techniques as the Romans would have used.
This workshop lasts just under an hour - and promises to be a bit messy so please dress appropriatley. Pots and creations can be delivered to the school after they are dry.
Make a mosiac to celebrate Gladiators
This one hour workshop will be a fascinating insight into how mosaics and pottery was used to celebrate battles, skirmishes and gladiatorial victories. With expert guidance from Falkirk Archaeologist Geoff Bailey and FCT library staff, you will design and complete a small mosaic to celebrate all things Roman.
This wokshop lasts just under an hour - and promises to be a bit messy so please dress appropriately. Mosaics can be delivered to the school so as not to mess up your bus.
