The ampitheatre is one of the most quintessential structures of the Roman Empire. Yet it fulfilled a function related to the ritual slaughter of animals and people which today seems at odds to our view that civilised cultre upon European values were built.
During the days of the British Empire it was thought that Britain had not possessed such barbaric stages. Then it was realised that some of the earthworks thought to have been prehistoric were in fact such venues.
The talk explores the discovery, physical and cultural, of these monuments and the evidence for Gladiators in the province of Britannia.
Ticket price includes entry to Gladiators: A Cemetery of Secrets.
