We are delighted to be bringing back Falkirk Science Festival in 2021. Due to COVID protection levels reducing in our area, this year the science festival will deliver a combination of online workshops online and outdoor workshops in our parks.
All workshops online and in the park are advance book only. Please see below some frequently asked questions and answers about your workshop.
Q. I can no longer attend the workshop, do I need to let anyone know?
A. Yes. If you can no longer attend the workshop, please let us know ASAP by contacting: email@example.com or call 01324 506850. Spaces are very limited and we want to make sure that every space is taken. We are operating a waiting list and will contact the next in the queue.
Q. Is my workshop online or on the park?
A. The website and your email confirmation will clearly state whether your workshop is online or outdoors. Please read the website information carefully.
Q. Are the workshops suitable for children?
A. Yes, the workshops are suitable for children. Each workshops will state the suitable age range on the website
Q. What time does workshop finish?
A. The length of each workshop varies, but the website will tell you the start time and duration of the workshop. Please also check your email confirmation for this information.
Q. Does an adult need to attend the workshop?
A. Yes. A responsible guardian must be present throughout the workshop, for both online and outdoors.
Q. The workshops is full, can I join a waiting list?

Q. What platform is the online workshop delivered on?
A. The online workshops will be delivered on Microsoft Teams and you will be sent a secure link to the workshop at least 2 days before the workshop begins.
Q. Do I need to install a programme to attend the online workshop?
A. Yes. Please install Microsoft Teams App on your computer desktop – more information on how to do this will accompany your booking email.
Q. How do I access the online workshop?
A. A couple of days before your online workshop session we will send out a secure link to the MS teams meeting. Pleased check your spam folder. If you have not received your access link please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01324 506850. Please click on your access link 5 mins before the workshop start time to allow for any connection issues. You will be held in the waiting room.
Q. Do I need equipment for online workshops?
A. You will require some equipment to participate in the online workshop activities.
Some workshops will provide all items and these will be posted out in advance of the session. Some workshops require the use some basic household items and these will be listed as a ‘kit list’ on the website. Before signing up to the online workshop, please read the information carefully.
Q. My equipment has not arrived for the online workshops?
A. If you have not received your workshops equipment 3 days before the online workshop please contact: email@example.com or call 01324 506850 and we will arrange another set to be sent out.
Q. Does an adult need to supervise an online workshops?
A. Yes. We ask that an adult is present for the online workshop to support their child with the activities. We will also send guidance on how to safely participate online.
Q. Is my child old enough to participate in an online workshop?
A. Each workshop will specify what is the suitable age range to participate. If you have children of multiple ages, children outside this age range can participate but it maybe too complicated and they will need supervision.
Q. Are pets allowed to outdoor workshop?
A. No, please do not bring pets to the workshop.
Q. Can I bring an assistance dog with me?
A. Yes, guide dogs for the blind, hearing dogs for the deaf and assistance dogs are all permitted.
Q. Do you allow babies in pushchairs?
A. Yes we do. The park is fully accessible for pushchairs, although the workshops take place on the grass. Please read carefully the suitable age for each workshop. Families with children of multiple ages are welcome.
Q. Will there be food available?
A. Yes, there are food kiosks on the park.
Q. What should I wear?
A. The weather is always changing in Scotland, so be prepared! Bring sunscreen if its hot, layers in case it cools down and don’t forget your waterproof jacket in case it rains!
Q. Are there toilets available?
A. Yes, there are toilets and disabled toilets in all parks and these are clearly signposted. There are also a changing places toilet in the large car park at The Helix Park.
Q. Where should I park?
A. There is parking available at all parks. For the Helix Park: On the park (£2) Falkirk Stadium (free). For Callendar Park: Estate Avenue (free), and Muiravonside Park: Main car park on entrance (£1)
Q. Do you take credit/debit cards?
A. The vendors onsite do take cards. However sometimes it can be helpful to have cash in case the card machine does not work.
Q. How much does a workshop cost?
A. The workshops are FREE thanks to Scottish Government Science Festival funding.
Q. Can I collect tickets from the box office?
A. No, there is no collect at box office for outdoor workshops. You will receive your ticket via email, all tickets will be scanned, and customers must have a e-ticket with a unique bar code. Valid tickets will be accepted in all formats, whether printed or on mobile phone.
Q. I have not received my email confirmation, is this normal?
A. No, if you haven't received an email confirming your ticket purchase, please send us details of your booking and when you booked your tickets. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01324 506850.
Q. Will my tickets be posted out to me?
A. No, for outdoor workshops your tickets will be an e-ticket. The unique bar code on your e-ticket can be read on your smart phone or you can print it out and bring it with you. If you cannot find your e-ticket please email email@example.com or call 01324 506850.
For online workshops we will email you a unique code and link to the workshop 2 days in advance of the workshop.
Q. Why do I need to buy a ticket in advance?
A. There will be no tickets available on the door of an outdoor workshop. All places must be booked in advance in order to comply with the NHS track and trace.
Q. What time should we arrive?
A. Please arrive no more than 10 minutes before your workshop start time.
Q. Is there a waiting list for workshops if they sell out?
A. Yes, we are operating a waiting list. If tickets become available you will be contacted via telephone.
Q. Is it suitable for people with additional needs?
A. We try to make our workshops as accessible as possible. If you have an additional needs please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to find out if the workshop is suitable.
Q. Are there disabled toilets on site?
A. Yes, there are disabled toilets available on Callendar, Muiravonside and Helix Park. Changing places toilets are only available at Helix Park, in the large car park.
Q. I am a blue badge holder, where can I park?
A. Helix Park blue badge parking is available at Falkirk Stadium and the small carpark. Please do not park at the Visitor Centre as this is the furthest distance from the workshop locations
Callendar Park blue badge parking is available at Estate Avenue carpark and in the Woodland carpark.
Muiravonside blue badge parking is available at the café.
Q. Can I bring a pushchair or wheelchair?
A. Not all the workshops are accessible, please contact to find out about access by emailing: email@example.com or call 01324 506850. We have baby changing, disabled facilities on the parks. There is a changing places toilets at Helix park only too.
Q. Do you have wheelchairs or mobility scooters on site for public use?
A. No we do not, so you will need to provide your own mobility aids. Most areas of our parks are fully accessible but please double check where the workshop is being held before booking by emailing: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01324 506850.
Q. What will happen if the weather is very bad?
A. The workshop will only be cancelled if the weather in Falkirk is perceived to be a danger to the public (e.g. extremely high winds).
The workshop will not be cancelled in the following circumstances:
- Heavy rain in Falkirk - we advise that all visitors dress appropriately for the weather
- Heavy rain in other areas of Scotland - we advise our visitors to take note of the weather conditions on route to the event and allow ample time for their journey.
- Very Cold Weather - we advise that our visitors dress warmly and appropriately for cold weather
- The decision to cancel will be made at 8am on the day of the workshop. Shortly after which we will endeavour to contact you either by e-mail or by text and a notice will be posted on the front page of our website and social media sites.
- You should check the web site and social media from 9am of the workshop day.
Q. If the workshop is cancelled will it be rescheduled?
A. We will work with the workshop provider to work out the best way forward. If the workshop is rescheduled your place will be automatically rolled forward to the new date. We will be in touch via email to confirm the new date and time and to confirm that you would still like your place.
Q. What will happen if the COVID protection level changes?
A. Workshops may be cancelled due to COVID protection levels changing. If the workshop is cancelled due to COVID protection levels changing to a level that does not allow the performance to take place you will be contacted and we will work with the workshop provider to reschedule.
If your local area protection level changes and you are no longer able to travel to the workshop we ask that you contact us asap so we can contact someone on the waiting list.

Q. Is photography allowed?
A. Please do not take pictures during the workshop.
Q. Can I bring my drone to the event?
A. No. Use of a drone on the site or within a 150 metre radius of the workshop, contravenes aviation safety legislation and, to ensure the safety of the general public, we reserve the right to call the police to intervene.
COVID Health & Safety
Q. What safety procedures have you put in place?
A. We have reduced the capacity of the workshops to ensure that the participants can be socially distanced whilst still being able to hear and see the workshop leaders. In addition there will be hand sanitising stations at the workshop, additional cleaning measures and we will ensure there is 1m between participants. Our toilets are on a higher cleaning schedule in line with Government guidance.
Q. Will I need to wear a face mask?
A. As there workshops are online or outside you are not required to wear a face mask, however if you feel more comfortable wearing a face mask please do. Please wear a face mask when using the toilets.
Q. Do I need to show a negative test to attend the workshop?
A. Government guidance as of 24th May 2020 does not require us to ask participants to show a negative test, however this policy could change.
We do ask that participants do not attend if they are showing symptoms or if anyone in their household is showing symptoms or has tested positive.
We also ask participants to do their bit and go and get tested at one of the local test units or get a test kit delivered to their home here.
Q. Will the workshop be socially distanced?
A. Yes, each household will be spaced 1 metre from each other.
Q. Can more than one household be together?
A. We are providing space for each household to participate in the workshops safely. The workshops are small in numbers so it will be easy for friends to share their achievements.
Q. If I cannot attend due to COVID symptoms or testing positive for COVID, should I tell anyone ?
A. If you can no longer attend due to COVID Please call Box Office on: 01324 506850 so we can contact someone on the waiting list.
