Writing Rammy

{RAMMY: Scots noun meaning a noisy disturbance or free-for-all}

Calling all budding writers! 2019 sees the return of Falkirk Libraries annual short fiction competition The Writing Rammy.

The Writing Rammy is open to all ages, from 5 to 105! Taking part couldn’t be easier; just write a short piece of fiction or poetry on a theme of your choice.

We’re encouraging the whole family to have a try. In fact, we are setting the families in the wider Falkirk area a direct challenge: get as many members of your family to write a story as you can and send them in. You could claim our special Family Rammy prize at our award ceremony in October!

About the Writing Rammy
Entries will be judged by a panel of library staff and a winner and runner up will be chosen in each of the following categories:

12 and under
13 - 17
Family Rammy (best family entry)

Winners will be announced mid-September and invited to a special prize giving ceremony at Falkirk library during National Libraries Week in October.

Family Rammy

For a chance to scoop our Family Rammy prize, get together with the other members of your family and each write a story or poem and send in your entries together. We want everyone to take part – mums, dads, grannies, uncles, big brothers, cousins… the whole family!

But seriously, Family Rammy entries don’t need to involve lots of people – it can involve as little as one entry from and adult and one entry from a child in the same family.

How to enter
Simply send your entries to our dedicated email address, with your contact details to WritingRammy@falkirkcommunitytrust.org.
Or alternatively typed entries can be handed into any library in the Falkirk district by 3pm on the closing date.
Your entry should clearly state your name, age, address, tel. no and email address
The word limit is 250 words if you are under 12, or up to 500 words if you are 13 and over.
The competition opens on the 1st of June and the closing date is Saturday 31st August.
