Trips - Beinn Dearg Munros High Tops (3 Days)

A three day trip into the fabulously rugged area around Beinn Dearg, bookending the travel and exped-kit carrying days with a big middle day, and opportunistically knocking off nearby peaks at the start and the end of the trip. Five Munros plus a Corbett and a Graham, light bags on the big middle day, much remoteness, a high camp that'll hopefully keep the midges at bay - should make this trip a grand undertaking.

Beinn Dearg Munros High Tops

Day 1 - 9.7km with 880 metres of ascent walk in

It’ll be good to stretch the legs at Inverlael after the drive up from Falkirk. Our wild camp destination is nestled within the bealach lochains between the main peaks. A good track leads through the forestry and up on a decent path where we’ll make our camp for the next two nights. The plan is to nip up Cona Mheall, which involves a mere 2.7km with 200 metres of up, before bed.

Day 2 - 16.6km with 1000 metres of ascent, most of it pathless.

We’ll be ticking three Munros to make the most of our location. Meall nan Ceapraichean and Eididh nan Clach Geala are nearby but Seanna Bhraigh lies far away over a vastness of wild MAMBA land. After the first two we’ll be lucky to see anyone on our remote ramble out and back from the third peak.

Day 3 - 10.5km with 550 metres of ascent carrying the big bags

To vary our exit we’ll head over Beinn Dearg and tick a Corbett Graham combo of Beinn Enaiglair followed by Mell Doire Faid, the latter a mere exped-bagless romp of 1.2km with 160 metres of ascent. From that bealach we pick up a path then track which leads down past Home loch to the old Corrieshalloch car park on the A82, where a cunningly placed bike will aid your instructor down to the bus, which is 7.5km or a half hour of midge dancing away.
